The newly renovated Narodni dom hosted the formal inauguration of Professor Matej Makarovič as the first Rector of the new public University of Novo mesto. Bringing together the academic community and representatives of government, business and the local community, the ceremony marked an important step in Novo mesto’s development as a university town.

I was entrusted with presenting the ceremony and helping shape the evening, which was organised by Maja Judež of Youma Events. Musical performances by the Pomlad Mixed Choir, Marijan Dović and Mihael Hrustelj enriched the programme.

Presenting an occasion like this calls for an understanding of protocol, alongside a sense of warmth and personal connection. The evening had both: the formality of welcoming a new rector and the heartfelt satisfaction of those whose work had contributed to the university’s establishment.
